As the vision of Shepherd of the Desert promotes excellence in education, it also promotes excellence in athletics. Athletics play an important role in the overall program of Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran School. We, as coaches and school officials, seek to develop the values which determine the athletes’ relationship with self, others, and ultimately with God. Student athletes will learn how to accept others, learn from others, and work with others for a common purpose. Shepherd of the Desert sees the organized sports experience as a platform to develop athletic, social, and spiritual skills. Our athletic program provides opportunities for students to learn the fundamentals in the offered sports and provide a sense of community and pride in our school. Participation in the school’s organized sports is voluntary. It is a privilege, not a right, and a participant has the responsibilities of Christian character and sportsmanship on the playing field and at school.
Shepherd of the Desert is a participating member of the Black Canyon Lutheran Athletic League (B.C.L.A.L.), consisting of 13 Christian schools and reservation missions. It provides the elementary schools of B.C.L.A.L. an opportunity for friendly competition in athletics. Participation is open to all students who qualify under the guidelines and regulations of Shepherd of the Desert and the Black Canyon Lutheran Athletic League.
