CURRICULUM OVERVIEW

CURRICULUM

One of the key focuses of Shepherd of the Desert is maintaining a comprehensive curriculum.  Our goal is to not only nurture the academic growth of our children, but to nurture their spiritual, emotional, social, and physical growth as well.  You will find that Shepherd of the Desert incorporates classes that educate the whole child.  By giving our students opportunities to learn a broad range of disciplines, we are preparing them to live responsible lives of service and to be a blessing to their community.

Shepherd of the Desert reviews and analyzes our curriculum on a regular basis.  This includes updating our textbooks and improving our instructional resources in order to provide our students with an exceptional education.  Shepherd of the Desert is nationally accredited through National Lutheran Schools Accreditation, our students perform exceptionally well on the Iowa Assessments, and we meet or exceed national standards.

Shepherd of the Desert reserves the right to interview and test students to determine grade placements or special needs such as learning disabilities or emotional concerns.

SOTD has a detailed outline of skills and content that each grade level is taught.  We have aligned our curriculum to state and national standards.  Every class at Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran School meets or exceeds the proficiency standards for performance in all academic areas as measured by the Iowa Test of Basic Skills, a nationally norm-referenced assessment.  For more information on our test results, click here.
